anybody else starting to get really pissed at Walter for killing some great protagonists in Gustavo and Mike

24 Hr overtime does NOT sound like an evil kingpin to me

That's what I can't wrap my head around. I think they are working some angle about the original tape, and also Chuck's craziness, but I am not sure how it save Jimmy from those charges.

Never thought he rose to Don Draper or Tony Soprano levels of anti hero

Not that I really disagree with you. Gus is awesome. But the overtime doesn't make Gus some nice guy. It is completely just a prudent move to win over his employees so that they will be happy keeping quiet and help cover Gus' tracks.

Gus is just using them and his legitimate business to hide in plain sight. If he is well liked and seems like a good employer and member of the community that just helps him to that end.

Gus is still totally a murderous sociopath.
