This is what frustrates me with the NFL & NBA Draft Process: Dupre related

He should absolutely be able to come back to school.
How they don't have protection for a kid like this is beyond me. He is legit fricked.
I know it would be complicated but I wish they'd change it.

He can come back to school.

They have a plan in place, the NFL advised him not to do it, he did it anyway. Why should the league or school have to jump through hoops when the kid made the wrong decision?

He can go back to school. He just can't play football. LSU has a good engineering program. Maybe he can do that.

That would be way to complicated not to mention the kid would miss all of spring practice.

He had some protection. It's called the draft grade. He chose to ignore it and take his chances

Nope. He was advised by scouts not to. Did it anyway. Tough shite.

He should've known that he would be a low pick in the draft. Nobody's fault but his own. He wanted to leave the program to go the NFL, that was HIS choice. Not hard to see that he couldn't catch a cold in the winter, wasn't going to be a high draft pick.

I agree with you. The system, as it stands, is designed by the two leagues to protect their teams.
Baseball has a different system in place.

He'll be picked up somewhere. But I don't really think they should change anything.
If he didn't graduate already, he can come back and finish, but he won't play.

I think i heard saban speak on this a while back as well. If you are undrafted he stated you should be allowed back. This opens a can of worms though if a person gets drafted in the 6th round and is not happy with being drafted with team then tries to get out of signing and tries to go back to school.

So, what you're saying is, a kid should be able to make the biggest decision of his life--to enter the NFL draft--and after he doesn't get drafted, he should be given a second chance?
Yeah, that should go over well.
"Let me see if a pro team wants me, and if not, I'll come back and play for you."
Apparently, somewhere along the way, his draft grade and his performance in pro days and the combinr didn't line up. He should have known this. But, he got a hot head and thought he was better than he was, and now he will pay for it.
Part of me feels for the kid, but damn it, you have to have more sense than that.
And the people that gave him a 3rd round draft grade should do better. Sheesh. Talk about a flub.

No, the league cannot be held responsible for the mistake of the player.
It should be the player's responsibility. If he thinks he is ready but he isn't you cannot hold the league responsible.
If there was zero risk to declaring early more would do it. There must be consequences.

He made a decision and he has to live with it. No one discourages an athlete with a 1st or 2nd round grade to declare. That was not the case with him.
He knew there was a risk and he took it. He now faces consequences of his own choosing. In his three year career at LSU he did little to merit strong consideration for the draft.

His fault. Don't have a whole lot of sympathy for him but hopefully this will be a lesson for future players and it will stop someone from making the same mistake.

You can leave college to practice in the private sector and come back..why not at least be able to come back if the draft doesn't work out?
I know some are spooked by slippery slopes but maybe an official projection can be put in place and if you don't get it then you can return. These are peoples lives.

There are 250+ spots in the draft. If you're not drafted and you left early, I cannot believe for the life of me that you were paying attention to what anyone other than insanely biased people are telling you.

In addition to the NFL grade/advise Chi got, LSU under Miles went the extra, no pun intended, mile to advise players looking to leave early. Not just coaches, but scouts, execs, etc. that they have networked through the years. And it was straight advise, if the player should go they did not advise him to stay (hence the outside sources). I assume that is still in place under CEO. It's a good recruiting tool actually.
