I've made the drive and the flight is definitely better. A few weeks ago, I connected at Hobby which was awful. The return flight was cancelled and Southwest placed me on a direct from Austin - MSY. The direct is definitely the way to go.

Okay finally convinced my boss to fly on this trip... Now comes time to book flights and I have a question about Austin rush hour traffic. Conference ends at 5pm on a Thursday at UT's campus, there are options for 6:20pm flights out of AUS. Is this feasible? Google maps says it's about a 15 min drive from UT to the airport, just trying to double check that we wouldn't hit some ridiculous rush hour traffic like in BR and it would take an hour.
Side note: What's the good bar area near UT's campus? Have to book hotel soon
