Seriously I didn't get it. I know he brought the gun to shoot the shoes, but why even shoot 3-4 times?

Because when he shoots the shoe, he wouldn't want them to stop.
That may have spooked/disrupted the guys. Instead their senses were dulled in thinking someone was probably shooting wild hogs or something.

Did you watch the whole scene? Even if you didn't know what Mike was doing at first, you could figure it out when the 2 guys come to the conclusion that it was just hunters. It was in the subtitles.

ok that makes sense. i guess they would have heard it. i was just thinking the noise from that truck would drowned it out but you're right.
