We have a hot water recirculating pump in our garage. Our master bedroom is on the other side of the house. The convenience of switching that pump on and off from the master bathroom rather than going to the garage is worth the cost.
ETA: the pump does have a timer built in, but my wife and I both have very variable schedules, so the timer doesn't help us
