Warren Morris's hit won the National title. Billy Cannons run did not.

Cannon's run is one of the most famous plays in college football history, not just LSU. No contest.

Baseball doesn't come close to football as far as interest goes. THAT is the difference maker when you compare the punt return and what it meant to LSU at the time to the home run. The interest levels are why the Cannon return is as iconic as it is. I would say that more people think of LSU when you say "Billy Cannon" than if you were to say "Warren Morris".

Had LSU not lost to UT on a controversial call..Cannon has always said he would go to his grave knowing he scored...when his 2 point try was called short, LSU would have won the NC that yr. As I recall, it either the next week or near the end of the season, that loss keeping LSU from back to back NC. Point, match Cannon.

I don't think you realize how insignificant college baseball is nation wide.
