I'm curious; say you were to accept a position/go to school/etc. overseas and there was a draft held in the states. Are you obligated to return or because you're living out of country are you not included? I would assume if you didn't return it would be viewed as dodging the draft. I'm sure they wouldn't have you extradited but likely have repercussions upon your return or when you go to renew your visa. Was talking about it and was unsure as to what would happen.

If you're in this type of educational/socioeconomic position, you probably wouldn't be drafted anyway.

If you are registered with Selective Service and you're in college and you get selected , you can only defer until the end of the semester (I think)

When I was at LSU, my "plan" if a draft had occurred was to join the Air Force ROTC or simply enlist in the Air Force or Navy.

There's nothing stopping you from pleading a hardship, but unless you'd renounced your citizenship the same rules and exemptions would apply to you overseas.

For guys our age it's really kind of extraordinary to think about the prospect of randomly being plucked out of your life and forced to join the military for a year or two. Like watching some of the older shows and movies where friends were coking and joking/worried about who would be the next to go.

Gotta be crazy. I honestly hope we never go back to that.

This fellow was concerned about the draft so he enlisted.

My personal opinion would be to only draft LBGTQ people.

They "fought" so hard to serve openly in the military so we should oblige them by making sure they serve.

Do we actually need the amount of boots on the ground as we did in previous wars? Seems like we can do most the fighting without that large of an actual manned force.

Jesus, take a walk around this weekend and look at the potential draft stock.

Half of them are fatbody, fedora-wearing social rejects who still live with their parents.
