It's strange to characterize it as a "date" - even more so when people publicize it for facebook approval. A "date" implies that there's a romantic aspect.
Sorry for the downvote. Meant to upvote.
It does sound a little weird because of the romantic implication, but what it comes down to is just a cutesy way to say it. More cute than I would be and it's presented too much like trying to make a statement when it's just spending time with family but whatever.

Why?
just sounds weird to me. date implies a romantic element is involved.

I see nothing wrong with it.
I do see it as attention whoring if you have to put it on facebook.

can we just call i lunch. this "daddy/daughter" everything is fricking stupid.
it's like man this, man that. it's not a fricking "man bun," it's a goddamn bun no matter what sex of the person wearing it.

So how much attention did your parents not pay to you for you to be the miserable person you clearly are?
Need a hug?

These pathetic people do it more for the "kudos" and credit they get from other facebook losers, instead of the actual joy of their children.

My kids have the best life, and nobody is posting all of the great shite we do all the time....because we don't give a frick about impressing the jones'....

I’d like to take this moment to remind everyone that being treated ‘like a princess’ would actually involve being married off at the age of 12 to a man you’ve never met to secure a political alliance.
Also, if you want to raise a woman who has a healthy attitude towards men, giving her one afternoon a month where she has to look pretty before she’s given treats? Not the way to do it.
But there’s a bigger issue at play here than playing fast and loose with the concept of ‘dating’ and that’s the people who are queuing up to congratulate a man for spending some time with his kid. Think about that.
Do we see mothers getting 89 thousand Facebook likes for mopping up sick and doing the school run?
Of course not.
What do we go nuts for fathers spending time with their kids? Why do we call it ‘babysitting’ when a dad is active in childcare? Why are we surprised that the person who helped create the child then deigns to spend time with it?

It's fricking weird to say you're taking your child on a date.

You've got issues.

we REALLY need everyone to quit being so hypersensitive and bitching about every nice, innocent thing someone does. You sound like an SJW. Only instead of bitching about repressed feminism, you're bitching about a parent not doing enough. Its a nice gesture. Say something positive about it or STFU.
I was responding to someone saying it could make society better. This doesn't really improve anything. Just gives you facebook likes...
This is a discussion forum, if everyone STFU that didn't agree with your position, it would be incredibly boring. DWI

When people use this argument, it reminds me of Randal on Clerks 2 trying to repurpose a racist term. You are taking back dating.

I see it differently. There's obviously not a romantic component to a dad taking his daughter out for ice cream, so why use a term that carries that implication? I get that it's "cutesy" and such, but it still sounds strange to me to some extent.

so a parent spending individual time with a child doesn't improve anything. not for the child. not for the parent. not for anyone. got it.
glad my dad doesn't know how much time he wasted taking me hunting and fishing.

Not everyone who uses Facebook is trying to rack up likes. There is a lot of peojecting in this thread.

Not if they are a shitheads the rest of the time. Ask the kids of divorcees who had parents who just showed up when it was time to buy them off.
