Easy. You take a look at what your net rating has to be in most years to make the playoffs.

If you aren't smart enough to keep up. By all means don't waste my time or yours by responding.

when you have to say this multiple times in every thread, don't you think you are actually the one who is lagging very far behind? I will promise you there has never been a more butthurt, ignorant poster on any board I have ever frequented.

Whatcha gonna say when GOATbrook drops his sack on Harden's head?

We say congrats. And tip our cap. In case you haven't noticed I am more a fan of the game as a whole than any player or team.

Net rating is not hypothetical it is what it is. No guesswork involved.

Saying a 2017 team wouldn't make the playoffs in, say, 2013 is basically the definition of a hypothetical.

They made the playoffs. If you make the playoffs you have a chance to go on a run to win the title.

This isn't rocket science Bubba.

You are delusional. You're obviously trolling big time.
In the 949 minutes (19.8 games) that Harden hasn't been on the floor, the Rockets has offensive rating of 110.3 and defensive rating of 104.7, a +5.3 differential.

If you extrapolate that to a whole season and use Daryl Morey's (yes your Daryl Morey) pythagorean win expectation, that would result in about 55 expected wins.

Now obviously, I realize that is overly optimistic, but it's clear that Houston is talented enough to win more than 41 games without Harden this season.

Harden plays minutes v the other teams starters. When James comes out the other team has bench players out there. If you assume the other teams starters won't play. Sure Houston would be a 55 win team. Otherwise, nope.

Wins matter, but this 20-25% portion of the season/every game does not matter.

Right, so Harden's cast is better than other team's casts for the 20% of the season he's not playing. Does that affect wins, yes or no?

I don't think they would be a 55 win team, BUT it's not delusional to think they would have a winning record.

a nice chunk of that is garbage time. Which you gotta toss out. Once Game is decided and both teams empty the bench .... yea we don't judge teams by that.

A nice chunk of it is not garbage time.

But feel free to show the data that skews the numbers in HOU's favor in garbage time.

Right, the numbers could show that HOU's bench is even THAT much better once you do toss it out. Until we have those numbers, we go with what we got.

Well that's bc HOU has three losing seasons in the last 33 years. A losing season would never be expected.

But then you see that without a playmaker getting them open none of those guys would be as successful as they are with James and it's laughable that someone would think that squad would be better than Portland who is a .500 squad.

The struggle to rep the team or bash the team to rep Harden is real!!!
