Might be better off doing a rainforest tour in cairns instead of the beach. Most people go to the man made lagoon there and not the beach because of crocodiles. If you want to do some partying in cairns check out Gillian's backpackers.

I enjoyed the blue mountains a lot so I can recomend that. Maybe check out coogee to bondi walk then hang out at bondi beach. You could also check out manly beach as well. Obviously do the bontanical gardens and opera house.

The public transport is great in Melbourne so maybe spend a day exploring the city. You could check out the MCG and see if there's an Aussie rules game that day. I stayed in st kilda close to the beach while I was there and had a good time around that area.
