Hog Hunting, Concordia Parish

I go on an annual hog hunting weekend trip with some colleagues and this coming weekend is it. Calling it hog hunting is a bit of a stretch since it's usually just drinking, cooking, and occasionally sitting in a box stand over an overgrown foot plot in the evening that hasn't been maintained since the end of deer season. This is the only hunting in LA I really do all year so it's not like I have much knowledge about it, but I know it's gonna be warm and wouldn't think it's an ideal time. It's usually about 6-8 of us that go and no more than 4 of us ever really go sit in a stand.
Questions:
Any tips to make our hunts more successful?
Is early morning better than evening?
Other than scattering corn over the plots and lanes, any other advice?
With the warm weather, would stalking be a good idea?
TIA

Get somebody to spread corn all week before you get there

We have people bait the traps all week with the doors propped open the whole week before and we set them when we get there. That's usually the only hogs we get. I'll ask them to spread over the stands as well.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I just went in Texas. Only really saw them at night a hour after sun down. I'm guessing since it's hotter.

I'm pretty sure they don't give a crap how you kill them. It's really give them $ for a hunting lic and have fun.
Little pressure where I was too. And I shot mine at 745pm

fwiw, I wouldn't ever consider stalking hogs to be a good idea, as they are sometimes aggressive.
they are much more active at night, but I am not sure whether that is legal. call the wildlife and fisheries in that area to ask. if it is legal to shoot at night and you want to do it, be sure to let the local law enforcement folks know what is going on, so they don't think you are illegally hunting deer.

Call the guys at Double G Hog Control out of Monterey. Let them take you on a night hunt with thermals.
As for stalking hogs, if you have any skills it's a great way to get on them because of their poor vision. Just keep the wind in your face.

That could be the most yuppie response I have read on this board.

Do not stalk hogs, they are scary. Let a law enforcement offices know you will be performing outdoor activities

From LDWF hunting regs book
quote:
On private property, the landowner, or his lessee or agent with written permission and the landowner’s contact information in his possession, may take outlaw quadrupeds (coyotes, armadillos and feral hogs), nutria or beaver during the nighttime hours from one-half hour after official sunset on the last day of February to one-half hour after official sunset the last day of August of that same year. Such take may be with or without the aid of artificial light, infrared or laser sighting devices, or night vision devices. In addition, pursuant to 56:116 (D) (3) any person who is authorized to possess a firearm suppressor may use a firearm fitted with a sound suppressor when taking outlaw quadrupeds, nutria or beaver. Any person attempting to take outlaw quadrupeds under the provisions of this paragraph, within 24 hours prior to the attempted take, shall notify the sheriff of the parish in which the property is located, and the LDWF Enforcement Division by calling 1-800-442-2511, of their intention to attempt to take outlaw quadrupeds under the provisions of this paragraph.

Looks like you only have to notify green jeans if hunting at night. I usually make two hog trips a year outside of deer season to a buddy's camp and we hunt out of box stands. Never had an issue with game warden coming check on us. As long as you aren't killing bambi they can't tell you anything for sitting in a stand with a rifle.

I would not call because calling is only asking for an anal probing after you and your bro's are a 12-pack in. Gunfire in rural Concordia Parish is part of life baw. Shoot some hogs.

Thanks all for the info, greatly appreciated! Hopefully I'll post some pics of success!

I wish I'd run in to those. Athens sum bitches run like hell when they notice a hunter in the woods. But I'll take an aggressive one. pew pew pew. Shoot that sucka.
