I've been watching a lot of Ruben Foster stuff on youtube and I gotta admit, I'm falling in love with this dude all over again. There's some stuff I see that shows concern but if he's good up there and can calm down, I think this is could be the arse kicker our defense has sorely needed for years.

I like him as a Will LB in the NFL. I'm not sure he's got the smarts to be an NFL MLB, but I think he could be all-pro as a WLB. And I'd love Melifonwu or Budda Baker at #32, unless as good rush DE falls to us there.

Bingo.....mlb is the QB of the defense....

Had a dream we picked these two. Not kidding.

Foster has more pure talent than just about any MLB to come out in the last 10 years.
He obviously isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but the tape doesn't lie. He diagnoses plays early and arrives with bad intentions. He was also the QB of an NFL style defense at Alabama. Saban's defensive scheme is pretty much exactly like schemes run in the NFL so I'm confident he can do it.
I'm a little more hesitant due to injuries. If he stays healthy, he'll be a pro bowler at minimum, IMO.

I agree with your assessment...
But he's a head case, and that scares me

Foster is a playmaker, but a lot of concerns to pick him #11. I like Cunningham better, but if Foster falls to #32 or 2nd after his combine fiasco......

So we know we won't pick those two guys.

I know people keep saying stuff like this but we pick guys we meet with all the time.

10-4
I hope we go all D with maybe a late round speedy receiver. And, for the love of God, no QB.

Foster will not play MLB, if he does, he is a bust. The guy has no true football instincts, but is talented. Sounds like someone we have on our roster...
The guy from UConn is really interesting, wouldn't mind him at 32

We don't even need a MLB to begin with. I think he would have to play WILL or something.

And I just looked at his NFL.com profile, so yeah that confirms it:
quote:
SOURCES TELL US "He's not a MIKE linebacker. I think he's a pure run-and-hit WILL linebacker with good cover talent. I'm worried about what his medicals will show because he's had some issues with stingers during his career. I have a higher grade on him than I had on Reggie Ragland. Better pro potential to me." -- NFC director of scouting
NFL COMPARISON Bobby Wagner
BOTTOM LINE Foster is a vicious hitter with elite playmaking range and an ability to toggle between 225 and 240 pounds. Athleticism gives him cover ability that former teammate Reggie Ragland never possessed. Has Pro Bowl potential as a 3-4 inside linebacker or a 4-3 weak-side linebacker, but concerns over his medical history could be a consideration, according to some teams.

He has great football instincts but not so much in the football IQ area

This means they are automatically eliminated from consideration.
Good to know.

i don't know what people are talking about. People talk about mental smarts and translate that to not having good football smarts and/or instincts. That's all this cat has is football instincts. That is what Anthony lacks is on field instincts, anthony has the "smarts" just can't translate that to on field instinct and reaction.

I'm not sure how any of us do.
To be fair, most of the draft profiles say similar things, that he relies on athleticism and doesn't have a high football IQ.
