I personally would not have a big issue with paying half of the agent's fee....however, I would make it clear that he/she is no longer a "buyer's agent" because then the agent would be expected to represent both of you equally.

Which, in my experience, makes them useless. They cannot ethically give you advice on offers or counter offers. They basically can't do anything but fill out forms you can download offline when they are a dual agent. Even more reason to cut them out unless contractually obligated.
