look at any social media
being more popular on social media AT THE MOMENT =/= being more famous at or before 15
quote:
ESPN's broadcast of the semifinals game in which Davis played on August 20, 2014 brought a 3.4 overnight rating, which is currently an all-time high for Little League on ESPN
quote:
She appeared on the August 25, 2014 Sports Illustrated front cover,[30] which made her the first Little League baseball player to appear on the front cover of a top US sports magazine as a Little League player.
oh and re social media
quote:
After pitching the first shutout in postseason Little League history, she received congratulatory Twitter messages from Mike Trout, Marcus Stroman, Kevin Durant, and requests for interviews by television hosts such as Jimmy Fallon.
I'm gonna go ahead and say someone getting twitter mentions from pro athletes and late night talk show hosts is more famous than a basketball player getting you tube views

You're actually putting thought into your argument with the guy that thinks Lamelo is easily one of the 10 most popular basketball players amongst teenagers.
my bad
but, there is a school of thought that if ridiculous arguments are not refuted, then someone will believe it. They guy is totally digging his heals in, basically he is assuming anyone arguing with him just hates the Balls. Personally, I really don't care. LaVar is a loud mouth, but its working to some degree because h's getting a lot of attention. Whether that helps or hurts his kids going forward we shall see.

Just messing with you. I have the same problem.

quote:it is pretty disconcerting that Lamelo at 15 is getting all these views bc kids are driving it, not because analysts and scouts fed the hype a la Lebron. i'd trust the adults more.
Again, I'm not doubting the kids is good, really i have no idea, i also don't doubt that he's known just that he's know within certain circles, name basketball fans, the feature on ESPN this weekend alone does that, but that he's the most famous 15 y/o athlete ever is ridiculous hyperbole even for sites like this and posters like you.

there is plenty of actual hype around melo. hell, 247 has him as the #3 player in his class

No high school team or athlete has ever gone viral like Lamelo and Chino Hills did this year. Not even in the same stratosphere really.
haha, i overlooked this before. This is just proving my point that you are ignoring anything that happened before you tube
But even if this is true, so what? He's the most viewed HS basketball player since you tube started, which is what, 10-12 years or so? Sorry, that does not put him in the stratosphere of several other young stars we've named in this thread.

If nobody signs him and he goes with big baller brand nobody is buying that. Poor kids who buy those shoes are all about image and they're gonna laugh at people buying that no name brand lol
FUBU was a no name brand at one point too...

Ok and there has been more coverage of Youth sports in the last 10 years than the prior 100 years combined, So what is your point?

Youtube is a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar bigger platform than magazines.

Yes and it was released on youtube in 2 different videos and has combined about 1m views, the biggest exposure she got was playing in the Celebrity all star game against Kevin Hart.
Type Lamelo in to youtube and sort it by view count you get almost 2 pages before you find a video with less than 1m views

probably true, but so what? The audience is still fairly narrow, that's a feature by the way of the current media. still doesn't mean other kids weren't more famous.

now maybe, though somewhat debatable, however, you are just further proving the point that you can't see beyond your bubble.

So what? Bat Dad has videos with 22M views
SI still has a circulation of 3.5M. The point are missing is Youtube is one platform, once some one is out there in "mainstream" media like SI or guesting on talk shows, they are more famous. A lot more people know who LaMelo Ball is after the segment on ESPN this weekend than from you tube videos.
quote:
Views on youtube are a far greater gauge of fame but you can look at instagram too
No it's not, its a gauge of popularity on social media at best, view count does not correct for the same person watching a video repeatedly. Also the whole point of people putting stuff on YouTube is to get noticed and move to the mainstream
Again, I'm not saying Lamelo Ball is completely unknown, his 92 points made Sports Center. But there is no way on God's green earth he's the most famous 15 y/o athlete of all time. That's just stupid hyperbole.

I guess that means BBC dad is the most famous reporter in the world, even though we only know him as BBC Dad.
Your logic is terrible, to put it nicely.

The Rebecca Black song "Friday" has 103 million views on YouTube. The most popular video by The Beatles only has 55 million views.
Rebecca Black is nearly twice as popular as The Beatles.

LaVar taking shots at Lebron's 12 year old kid now, saying he won't be good because Lebron is so good.
Never stop LaVar, never stop!!!!

I hope they figure out the contract quick because I'm not buying shoes until I know they've endorsed them.

If Lavar is going to be their agent I'd be finding another if I were his kids. He's going to rob them blind.
