Doesnt rule it out in the future, but it sounds like the Pats won't discuss that trade possibility until he signs the tender

I feel bad for people who type out "Lololol"
Why don't you go post somewhere else since you aren't a Saints' fan?

well to be accurate he isn't part of the team until he signs and according to league rules they aren't supposed to be able to "officially" negotiate for him until he does.
personally I don't think they ever had any plans other then resigning both butler and hightower and are just playing hard ball so the players lower expectations of salary deals then are going to get.
if butler ever would be "shopped" I think the saints could do it at a great cost like 1st round pick plus another pick or player

Not according to my source

I disagree with PFT at the end where it says it's very likely Butler won't get it from the Pats
The Pats have 36 million in cap space, I don't see why everyone assumes they won't pay Gilmore and Butler

The Pats don't pay. What they do is they unload before a player is due a big contract.

That myth has been busted many of times

yep, this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
history shows they let players wanting big contracts go by trading them instead
the only one exception is brady and to be honest his contract is on the "very" cheap side for who he is and what he has done
the patriots are the penny pinching grandma with a full bank account but till eating tuna fish all week to save 3 cents when it comes to paying players at contract time

Devin McCourty, Gronk, Hernandez, Gilmore, adalious Thomas, Logan mankins, Moss in 08, Revis, are just off the top of my head examples of free agents and home grown talents that have gotten top of the market deals from the pats the past decade
Also the Pats have never had this much cap flexibility. That plays a huge part

They don't mind spending. What they do mind is spending for a player knowing their best years are behind them.

and a lot of those contracts were value:production.
Gronk was a top 2 TE and arguably a top 5 offensive threat that costed 9mil a year. Hernandez had top 5-10 TE potential and produced like a solid #2 WR while getting paid similarly. Other comparable offensive weapons were getting paid a lot more.
Mankins was top 3 lineman getting paid big guard money, then the second his production dipped and the value wasn't there, he was flipped
you guys pay for production and value, but when its not there BB lets them go or flips them. Gronk as a dominating WR gets paid 15mil, but Gronk as a top 2 TE only gets paid 10mil. that's the kind of value he keeps.
Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins combine for 29.1mil annually, that is their market as they are both top 5 at their position, but there is no value in that at all.

Clearly he sees value in the corner position given the large contract given to Revis/Gilmore. And he's loved Butler ever since he showed up to minicamp as an UDFA.
