Gronk was initially scheduled to earn $5 million in cash in 2017, but he can now earn as much as $10.75 million if he reaches certain incentives.

It’s a win-win scenario for both parties. For the Patriots, this keeps their star tight end happy and it doesn’t cost them all too much in the grand scheme of things. At $10.75 million, Gronk would become the highest paid tight end in the NFL. Entering this offseason, he was the eighth highest paid tight end in the league.

Keeps him from holding out or becoming a locker room distraction.

Other than that, they definitely lost money wise if Gronk hits the incentives.
