There is a bolt that you access from the top that you should be able to tighten instead of using a pipe wrench, it is adjustable so if you ever feel your boat pulling to one side you can adjust this to help out some, it is meant to counteract the pull from the rotation of the prop.

It is also a sacrificial anode.

That's what I tightened. The use of the pipe wrench was just because it looked big and the pipe wrench was handy.

I noticed it was always slightly cocked opposite the prop rotation. I'll keep that in mind installing the new one.
