I would start on Normal. Especially since there's no save point in tutorial.
For not playing the first, some of the homage won't be recognized or missed. You won't miss any plot points because of it though. Game is set thousands of years later.

Holy shite, I went into this game completely blind, beat the tutorial last night... this game is so much fun
