In the event we keep our pick, Demps will most likely trade it. Whether you think that's the right/wrong move is up for debate, but his history with draft picks suggest that it will be traded.

wouldnt that fall under the rule that you cannot trade back to back draft picks?
if we draft this year doesn't SAC get our first next year? or is it a 2nd rounder?

Spot-on. IMO, in this hypothetical scenario this would be the right move. We need a player who can help us win now, not two or three years from now after Cousins leaves and AD's contract has a year remaining and he wants out --- that is if there's even still a franchise in New Orleans by that point.
Very few rookies are needle-movers their first year in the league.
Just look at Hield... He played four years in college and was our biggest liability on the court this season before he was traded (based on +/- ratings).
