The way I see it, I can buy something new that has a chance of having a defect for full price, or I can buy something that had a defect, the defect was fixed, and hope that it doesn't have a 2nd defect that wasn't detected for a discounted price. I'll take my chance with a refurb for the discounted price, as long as the discount is worth the reduced warranty.

Exactly how I see it. Seems like they go through a pretty intense checklist, during the refurbishing process.

But, the discount is the only reason to do this.
