They are. But you miss the point. This is a political move made necessary by the brazenness of the leakers and the conspirators.
You want to stop the leaks and derail the campaign to bring down the government? Sic Gowdy or Cruz on them with the power to shine a light on their activities. This could and likely would lead to some big names in the GOPe and former Obama people, probably Obama himself.
Yeah its purely political but if you don't go after them, they will get you sooner or later. The investigations ongoing now are also purely political in nature. Fight fire with nukes I say.

I've been wanting one. OP wants it only on the leaks themselves because the FBI supposedly has the Russian thing covered.
I want a special prosecutor with a definitive report for the historical record concerning DNC hacks, disclosure to Wikileaks, whether Trump or his people knew in real-time, and the leaks about the investigation(s).
They're all linked and I want a full historical record concerning all of it. Then we let the dominoes fall where they may.

Yep, the Obama administration has to damage the Justice Dept as much as possible, because when they find out what Obama did, and the slush funds...it could get ugly!!! Obama made moves with his people in his last few weeks to do as much damage as they could, but a lot will come out. Trump just needs to clean house in every Dept, or this type stuff will keep happening..

There has to be a crime for there to be a prosecutor.There is no evidence of collusion between the Trump Campaign and the Russkies and even if there HAD been, what law was broken?
It IS illegal to leak classified material, and it IS illegal to conspire to bring down the government.

the difference being the HRC leaks were from private entities, the Clinton Foundation, Pedesta's email, and the DNC.

Who do you think brings charges? The prosecutor. The prosecutor comes first and then the charges, if they're warranted by the investigation.

The dilemma for Trump is that if some of his own people are doing the leaking then he'd have to get rid of them, which would be publicly known and another embarrassment for his administration.
If the communication trail led reliably to Obama holdovers you'd figure they would've been uprooted by now.
