You will no doubt be shamed on here as being backwards, but this addition is unnecessary like most of the token gay characters we are beginning to see on commercials and tv. There's no point other than giving a tip of the cap to the "gay community". It serves no purpose to include this stuff in movies targeting children.

It isn't necessary because there are much more subtle and better ways to achieve the same goal. Themes of acceptance of people who are different, sharing, acts of kindness, and other great values expose the child to great attributes without having to be so explicit in your message.

They said the same thing about blacks on TV in the 60s. Hell, every show about black people/families for two decades after the civil rights movement was accused of "pushing an agenda". People thought the fricking Cosby show was an agenda by the media to normalize the idea of intelligent, affluent black people.
Remember that and think about how silly you'll look 20 years from now

Sure it does. It shows that it is a normal way of life. Just as for the longest time, showing an interracial couple on tv or in movies was taboo but now, the vast majority of people don't even think twice about that. Hollywood was a major influence in changing the opinion of the culture on that subject just as it is doing on this one.
Seriously, if someone is hung up on who other people are fricking, then the issue is with that person, not the couple. Consenting adults can frick whoever or however they want.
