I don't think Leupolds suck but there's certainly lots better scope for your money out there. Show me a Leupold that has remotely close to the glass and features of the Viper I listed for anywhere close to $300...... you can't. For the money of a VX3 you're bordering on what you can buy a Zeiss HD5 for and the Leupold's aren't even in the same class til you get into the very upper end Leupolds. The days of Leupold having a monopoly at home on top of the average hunter's trusted rifle are over. While other scope companies were busy improving their products,qc, and adding more features for your money, Leupold has been sitting back expecting to live off the same scopes they made years ago and just increasing the price of them. Of course this is my opinion. But I will add that up until about 5 years ago I was a loyal Leupold customer and every rifle I owned had one sitting on top of it. But after a few friends had me try their scopes I swapped all of my glass over to Zeiss, Vortex ,and Burris Euro Diamonds. I highly doubt I will go back to any Leupold products unless they really do something different

You don't have to look very hard to find multiple problems users have had with QC issues. Yes, their customer service is really good. However, the fact that you're also more likely to have to use it is the thing that has scared me away from trying them out.

Zeiss and Burris are top notch for sure.

Have you tried out the VX3i?
