Why does it matter if it is common or not? It is a term that was coined before this incident, by Nike nonetheless. Firing is unwarranted.

So in order for an analogy to be valid, it needs to be normed and accepted in whatever field the analogy is used in?

So? He coined a new tennis phrase. It's called being creative.

I've played many years of tennis, and him using that word to describe her net play gives me a good idea of what her net play is like.

I don't care if the word is uncommon in the tennis world. It's a good descriptor.

I think you're harping on the word common. It's clearly been used before in tennis and the word guerrilla is used to describe an aggressive, charging maneuver.

Hell, no one else on TV says "string music" but Joe Dean says it incessantly.
