Ranger vs. Honda SxS

In the market for a side by side. Think I have it narrowed down to a Honda pioneer 1000-5 or a Ranger 900. Ranger has a lot more options but I've always had good luck with Honda and the convertible back seat/bed is a real selling point for me. I know the Ranger has ruled the side by side market for years. Anybody recommend the Honda?

I like the Honda. Very quiet running machine. They haven't been out long enough to see how they hold up. The big red UTV seems to hold up well and their atvs last forever. I and several buddies own Rangers. The rangers are nice machines but rather loud. The Vikings are nice too. Rangers seem to go through hub bearings and axles but we hunt sandy soil areas. Polaris parts are easy to get. The Rangers seem to have more cab room. All three are good machines. I'd probably go Honda if I was buying brand new.
Most pipeline companies are running rangers but I'm starting to see more Hondas. Make sure you can service what ever you get easily. Dealerships are pricey.

Bought the Polaris 900 last month after much research. Was leaning toward the Honda at first . Both have their merits , comes down to personal preference. Drive both , keep an open mind , and talk to as many owners as possible . You really can't go wrong with either machine . The ride and overall feel of the Polaris is what swayed me .

Check out Intimidator. It is made in Batesville, Arkansas. They are nice machines. I drove them at Outdoor Power in Woodville, MS.

Friend has Ranger crew diesel and gas. Both are less than a year old and constantly in the shop. Just have not been impressed. Would seriously evaluate other options

The honda 1000 is a great idea poorly executed. The oil actuated trans is completely clueless and jerky until it gets boiling hot. It will sweat you out of the cab if you stop for 5 minutes or so and then hop in. If you forget to tow only in low, you WILL destroy the clutch pack, $2200. You might also get debris into the trans, an extra $1400 on top of that. They are am absolute bitch to work on. They only have 66 hp.
If you are set on the pioneer, the 700 is the better choice. If you want the 1000, make damned sure you get an extended warranty. It'll pay for itself 5x over.
The polaris... The belt drive requires you to run it hard to preserve belt life. No feathering the throttle, on or off, nothing in between. The unit itself is very reliable you do the maintenance they tell you to.
If you dont, 50/50 shot it's a pile of shite in five years.

Have a 2011 800 Ranger that has given zero problems. Gets abused on an almost daily basis.
It also went 5' under water last August. Took 1/2 day to get back in operation.
