The FDA creates patent like barriers to manufacturers.
Tomorrow we should allow the importation of any drug approved in the EU, Japan or any other modern country.
We should end the requirement for prescriptions for old antibiotics, statin drugs and many blood pressure and birth control medications. Think of the hundreds of million in cost that would taken out of the health care system if people didn't have to pay for prescriptions before paying for such common, proven drugs? Think too of the pharmacy fees that would be eliminated.
We are somewhat unique in our arcane prescription requirements.
