To me, this all depends on the protection of the pick and what the long term plan for Okafor is. If they are able to lottery protect the pick in 2018 and they see Okafor as a leader of the second unit, then I am okay with this trade.

Okafor can score and still can develop offensively. He will never be an above average defender or rebounder but I think he could be a better version of Greg Monroe. He projects to be better than most mid first round picks and will still be on a rookie deal.

I think a few posters have outlined why it would be ill advised to depend on Okafor as a starter or playing huge minutes with AD. Also, if the pick is not lottery protected then this is a non starter for me.

But didn't you get like 90% of that with T Jones? Or, couldn't you if you use him properly? Why give up an asset for a slightly better version (maybe) of the same guy?

My bigger question is what are we doing?
We've made a switch to small ball, and our defense has sky rocketed b/c of it. We seem determined to get a big center right now, but you do that, and your entire philosophy on defense will have to change. You can't just have a guy like Okafor or Brook Lopez switching everytime. That's the problem with Asik's defense.

Going with Okafor to play the Kanter role, which I like, at least would keep the idea of small ball in tack. Getting a big 5 like Vucevic or Lopez completely changes how you play on both ends of the floor. Only mentioning and bitching about this b/c of the reports about the interest in those two.

Okafor is capable of coming off the bench and scoring 16 a night. That's not something you generally find with a mid to late first round pick. And he's cheap, which I always like about centers, and bench players.

I will be beyond pissed off if we somehow give Jrue and a first round pick away with Philly. I'll give Jrue and a first away if we are getting back a really good player on a decent contract, like Fournier and Vucevic.
