How big of difference is there in the quality of vision in $30 glasses as opposed to the higher end glasses?

I freshwater fish almost exclusively in the Basin/Belle River area, so 3-5' of murky water, and my green polarized Calcuttas perform just as good as the costas I have owned. I will never pay for costas again

That is just one mans opinion though

So which color lens performs best for brownish fresh water? Grey, green, brown, or none of the above?

I have a pair of Ray Ban polarized glasses just as every day glasses and they are fine. But if I wear them a lot then switch to my 580g lenses in my Costas, I see a big difference. I've just never worn any that are as good at cutting glare. Almost any polarized lens is going to let you see in the water. I find the 580s are just better glasses. On the water, in bright misty rain interstate driving, etc.. Any time the sun is beating down on my eyes, I prefer my Costas
