Couple questions:

How old are you?
What do you like to do?
Are you going to be making lots of $$$?

Geneva is very expensive, but more family friendly. But if you are young and like to ski, then you are so close to the Alps for all kinds of fun (Apres Ski) that it would be hard to turn down.

Amsterdam gets a lot of tourists and your friends will always want to visit, and the beer and food is incredible.

Both are beautiful and you cannot go wrong, and both are easy spots to see all parts of Europe quickly and cheaply.

That's "Dr." Zoidberg thank you very much.

Both are great cities. Geneva is more central for travelling by car or train. Amsterdam airport is better for travelling by air.
