Is Michael Gary Scott the most pathetic person in the history of television?

Rewatching the office and it's freakin painful how terrible of a person he is, Phyllis's wedding being the shining example. This rewatch has really made me hate him as a person, he is still obviously hilarious.
Anyone else even close to matching him?

I hated the scene where he drove his car into a lake because the GPS said to turn. He's not Homer Simpson.
That said, he's in no way, shape, or form the most pathetic character in TV history.

I'm watching the office now. Season 2 is so good I can't think of a word to properly describe it.

Not even close,
Hell, he wasn't even the most pathetic in the show. In the long run Toby ended up being more pathetic than Michael.
Which Michael probably loved to learn.

Wait, are we using pathetic as a synonym for hateable?
Cause he can sometimes be pathetic and sometimes be unlikable. But I think they are mostly different aspects of the character.

Certainly not, but his childhood memories are some of the saddest, most pathetic memories I've ever heard. And they make me laugh.
But in the end he was very successful at his job, got the girl of his dreams, chose family and happiness, and seemed more mature in the series finale.
quote:
Edward R. Meow: Well what's your favorite subject at school?
Young Michael: Recess.
Edward R. Meow: Ree-cesss. So tell me, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Young Michael: I want to be married and have a hundred kids so I can have a hundred friends, and no one can say no to being my friend.
Edward R. Meow: [jaw drops, awkward pause] Uh, ah... oh, okay! Well uh, nice talking with you, Michael. Uh, back to you Miss Trudy!

The Office is the most unfunny funny show ever made.

I feel like they made deliberate efforts to show how good of a salesman Scott could be when he absolutely had to be. That alone puts him above X amount of characters.

Leslie Knope is an awful, manipulative person.
Michael is a man child.

Jim is way more pathetic than he is.
Jim is an average salesman, not even the top in the branch, he turns down at least three major promotion opportunities, including one at corporate, to continue to hit on an engaged secretary with no future, he drops out of a major multimillion dollar sports agency opportunity to go back to being a middle of the pack salesman, he ruins an engagement and then doesn't even go after the chick, he buys his parents house without consulting his wife, he constantly interrupts his office atmosphere to the detriment of that office for no reason, he sends Andy to anger management, he loses multiple sales because he'd rather prank Dwight, the list goes on and on...
He's a pathetic Loser.
Michael Scott was the best salesman in company history, the leader of the branch, ran the best branch in the company, was a loyal friend, stood up for himself on more than one occasion, etc...
