I think that's picking and choosing. There's a lot more to it than that but maybe I should have said Piper is one of the more strict scritpuralist today.

Now every point that Calvin did? No of course not because some of it is wrong any way you swing it.

but the more hardline predestination and sovereignty of God that was rejected middle of 20th century has been picked up by Piper and Chandler. Neither are idiots.

Ever bought a car from a Calvinist? Damned things don't even let you choose where to drive.

My point was that Calvin and especially Luther were 98.7% catholic. Their disagreements were more institutional than theological. Evangelicals reject basic theology held by essentially every Christian alive including the reformers until the 17th century, yet they always cite the reformation as a turning back to "traditional Biblical Christianity".

Traditional Christianity is Catholicism/Orthodox, no way around it. Every notable Christian for over 1500 years believed what Catholics believe, including most of the reformers.

And I don't think they're idiots, my earlier comments were about credulity not stupidity. Plenty of brilliant people believe nonsense. Isaac Newton believed in alchemy and Einstein thought voodoo was real.
