2008 Gator team was stacked. Percy Harvin was arguably the best player and Florida beat #1 Bama without him

Is Gronk their best player...

It's debatable. I still say Brady is better, but I'm open to the argument.

1972 Dolphins lose Bob Griese, their HoF caliber QB and still run the table.

Debatable whether he was their best player, but still worth noting.

It could certainly be debated but Durant is clearly the better player.

93 bulls without MJ would have likely been favorites. They damn near won it all in 95 without MJ. The key is in 94 and 95 they were without MJ AND Horace

So 93 without MJ, but still having Horace, they are the favorites IMHO

ETA: looks like 94 did have Horace.

93 bulls without MJ would have still been near the top, and possibly favorites

i tried to read this 10x and still dont understand it. Either way, no Bulls team without MJ was ever a threat to win it all

Yes, they are. Go check any sports book.

My OP was talking more pro teams. College (football especially), has a lot of examples because of teams' abilities to stack a roster no one else can compete with

I think most NFL teams could compete without their best player, particularly if their best player wasn't the quarterback. Rosters are just so huge, you need to have a good, deep team to win.

Baseball is harder, but still possible. But I think it would be nearly impossible in basketball unless you replaced the best player with another superstar. Maybe these Warriors could do it just because they are so insanely talented.

New York Yankees between 1935 and 1941, the McCarthy years.
Then again between 1947 and 1958 (give or take) the Stengel years.

DiMaggio ages and gives way in 1951, Mantle becomes the star, but is always hurt.

The 94 bulls lost to the eastern conference champs in 7. You really saying they weren't a threat to win it all?

even if the Warriors lost KD or Steph

um, no... they lost last year at complete health and more with more depth.... if KD or Steph goes down, they are not the favorites... let's not forget the Cavs are the reigning champs, not the Warriors...

You mean the 94 Bulls who nearly improved the season after MJ'( Pippen missed 10 games & went 3-7) despite being replaced by CBA journeymen Pete " frickin'" Myers?
CBA journeyman. Not NBA.

You mean the 94" Bulls who finished 2 games out of 1st place in the East without MJ & a losing record(3-7) with an injured Pippen?

The 94"Bulls who were victim of one of the worst calls in sports playoff history ( Phantom Foul on Pippen) & subsequently lost a 7 game series to the 1st place Knicks?

You must be young or are in denial about the Bulls as cpserious contenders in 94.

And Jamal Lewis went out for the season early with a torn ACL.

Very good point. Jamal Lewis probably would have been considered, at the very least, Tennessee's best offensive player at that time.

Actually it was the Semis that Pippen was called for the Phantom foul & the Bulls go down 2-3 instead of going up 3-2 with a close out game 6 ( which they win) at home.

They were 2 games out of 1st place in the East( with Pete Myers) & a losing record with an injured Pippen.

Had the Bulls gotten Derek Harper, whom the Knicks picked up for nothing mid season , instead of sticking with Pete Myers they probably go back to the Finals & face the Rockets at least.

94 Bulls lost in the semi's. They were the 2 seed. Not the 2. It was a different team than 93. They added Kucok. They still couldn't get to the Confernce finals. And where never considered a favorite. No Bull team wins a title without Jordan.
