But what was the objective of resigning Asik and Ajinca?

With Asik it was AD not wanting to play center. With Ajinca it was Demps choosing the wrong reclamation project. Withey would have been cheaper to keep.

Yes, there is a salary floor, but that had nothing to do with the decision to resign Asik. Honestly with the situation they were in resigning Asik was probably the best play to make, but it should have just been a 2-3 year deal at most.

There has to be a reason they committed so much money to two guys whose combined numbers this year are "DNP - Coach's Decision", right?

They thought what Asik did in Houston could translate to playing in Gentry's system. He was injured much of last year, he's actually been somewhat effective this year and many fans have surprisingly been asking for Asik to play more. But they've committed to small ball so he and Ajinca are riding the pine. The funny thing is the team was exploring trading for Dwight Howard a few weeks ago, so they still aren't convinced that AD is a full time center.

I don't find this to be so. They could have made enough space to sign Bioyombo. Asik + Gentry never made any sense. Then you pile on the $$$ and years. Dell backed himself into a corner where he could only sign Asik at C, giving Asik all the leverage and Dell got taken to the cleaners.
