not saying they couldnt use an upgrade on the wing, but Hill/Cunningham aren't the zeroes this board has convinced themselves they both are.

the team has gone from bottom 5 to a top 10 defense on the season. so they should jettison two guys known as good defenders?

Buddy Hield should get better over the next year or two- if his average goes from 9 to 15, there's your 6. if you can get that + roughly the same defense....also, i'd like to see Hill work more on ball. some scary moments from him at times, but he's probably the best creator that isn't Evans/Holiday/Frazier (very low bar).

again, they've been over .500 since Jrue Holiday came back. they have a +3 Net Rating (with the best defense in the league) since going to Davis at the 5. freaking out over every loss and every thing that is not great with the team right now is the wrong way to think about it- it's how everyone thinks Demps/Gentry are looking at it.

last night Anthony Davis missed most of the 2nd half on the road. the Pels fought back from double digit deficit w/o him and had chances to win the game- largely because the Pacers suddenly couldnt hit FTs. sucks they lost, but it isn't the apocalypse. there is no catastrophe on the court right now

That's fine, but my original point wasn't to say this team is terrible; it was that they'll never get over that hump of 7 or 8 seed without another guy who can consistently close out games. Jrue is a solid player but he's not that guy. Tyreke is definitely not that guy.

AD isn't going to stick around in a few years on a team fighting for that 8 seed.

They aren't but I feel like the team is stuck in a position where it is going to have to rely largely on internal growth to improve.

On the latest BSS podcast Schwann and McNamara were discussing how much money they'd pay to keep Holiday. Schwan pretty much said anything over $15 was too much money for too little player. McNamara was willing to pay $20 per year for 3 years. His reasoning was he thought Holiday at $20 per year on a medium length contract was a more valuable trade asset than going out and signing another Hill and Moore.

I don't think the team has ever seriously contemplated life without Jrue, so that whole discussion is pointless. But that got me thinking about resigning Tyreke as a potential trade asset. If someone wants him to be their starter you probably can't compete both in role or money, but if the only teams that want him are playoff teams looking for a 6th man, you might have a shot at keeping him for around $10 and just needing to beat the MLE.

I know I've said in the past not to expect much value out of Tyreke, but if he's getting paid roughly the same under a $103 cap as he got under a $60 million cap, you might be able to get some value for him down the line, not to mention he's your 2nd or 3rd best player considering the teams inability to add talent to the roster.
