Not enough!
Would-be retirees cannot afford to quit working.
Under Obamanomics, LFPR > 65y/o has trended up vs LFPR decline in other categories.

Oh the southern school system... Basic critical thinking skills not taught.

Please share with the class the amount of people over age 65 in America side by side with your number so we can all laugh at you.

You really couldnt make that connection yourself? Really really?

Yep, and that has little relevance.

That isn't really important. He should just stop pretending that he increased the work force when he didn't.

Why is this necessarily a bad thing? One of the posters on the first page mentioned he and his wife both work (100% labor participation rate) yet would prefer it to be 50% (one stays at home). If one person is doing well enough to make enough money that others don't have to work, how is that bad? Would it be better if Trump made us all dumb, poor ditch diggers?

Also, Americans need to realize the workforce is changing. Manufacturing jobs and jobs subject to automation aren't coming back. Those people that are pigeon-holed in these areas need to be retrained for 21st century careers.

I asked my question early for a reason.

I knew this would be one of the many excuses.

Thank you for playing.

Now I will sit back and laugh some more.

Do you think Trump policies will lower, or increase, the total number not participating?

LFPR is arguably a more accurate measure of the state of the job market than the unemployment rate.
Unemployment rate only considers those in the labor force.

An unemployment rate of 5% means only 5 out of 100 workers in the labor force are without jobs, but it does not consider those unemployed workers who have given up looking altogether, even though they may want to work. LFPR includes them.

Yes it does. Read the definitions on the second page. Labor Participation rate is out or an overall sample that includes all noninstitutionalized persons 16 and older.

Wow! It's almost as if we've just started to hit the age where a large bolus of the population will start retiring.

If only we had a name for that generation, and the..boom? they must have been!

Perhaps because the rate of decline accelerated dramatically under obamanomics. E.g., the decline was ~400% that of W's Administration.

The trend, from a pure number standpoint, has been pretty steady since the mid-90's, so as long as population continues to grow, this number will as well. At best he may be able to stabilize the percentage. Of course he could throw money at the problem with drastic infrastructure and military spending increases. The bigger issue as we move further beyond the industrial age is the growing number of folks who are becoming largely unemployable.

It more has to do with the bogus unemployment numbers this WH does funky math with.

if people believe the UE rate is under 5% then I don't know what to say.

I trust nothing that comes from the government anymore. They are a bag of lies, manipulation, and fabrication.

The entire populations of the UK and France is equal to the amount of people unemployed in the US. Think about that.

So it DOES include retirees after all.
