Check out the Capitol Hilton. Nothing fancy but a good location. I always stay there when I'm in DC for work.
If you like bourbons/whiskeys, definitely go to Jack's Rose for a nightcap. It's ridiculously impressive.

I flew into Reagan
This is where I stayed at over the summer and had no complaints. The location was phenomenal. You could walk into the street and see the White House a stone's throw away. There's a Metro stop a block away. The one mark I will give it is that there wasn't a fridge in the room.
