Broadcast quality is superior to streaming quality in almost every case. The audio is usually noticeably better as well.
I use it because I have massive storage, compress, then archive the recordings so I can go back and binge watch a season of my favorite show in an arguably more "Fair Use"-abiding manner than most other available options.
I also have solutions for watching these recordings around the house that work fairly reliably and multiple recordings cab be viewed in different rooms simultaneously.
I find some commercials to be funny and like to catch them on occasion
