This comment gets me all the time. As a business owner, I strive to hire people who are looking for advancement within my company or outside of it because they make the business I own, better. Sure they may move on, but why should I limit their upward mobility if I can't fulfill their needs. If I appreciate their contribution, then it's on me to do what I can to keep them, within reason. It's my job, as the owner, to keep them in check and make sure they adhere to my expectations. Just prepare your "business" to always keep someone groomed for advancement, whether in house or by association.
