With all of the flashy and wide open offenses in college football, the defenses are still what win championships. 4 of the top 6 yards per play defenses made the playoff.

1. Alabama - 3.94
3. Ohio State - 4.24
4. Washington - 4.57
6. Clemson - 4.61

As a comparison, the top 5 yards per play offenses are...
1. Western Kentucky
2. Louisiana Tech
3. Oklahoma
4. Louisville
5. South Florida

All of those teams have very good/great offenses except for Ohio State.

Defense and a QB that can extend plays and convert third downs when the pass protection breaks down.

Another argument in your favor is the AAC Championship Game from yesterday. Coming into the AAC Championship Game, Navy had led the country in scoring offense in November averaging 52.8 points per game. while Temple led the country in scoring defense in November allowing only 3.3 points per game. Temple ended up thrashing Navy in the AAC Championship Game 34-10.
