re: Etling has been more than serviceable this season and an upgrade over Harris.

We have some delusional fans and once they find one thing they like about a guy, he can never do any wrong.
I can't remember seeing anybody making excuses for Harris when pointing out facts about Harris performing better than Etling. Cam did not call a smooth game and everyone dissected it. Run run pass. Etling looked no better than Harris under CLM and Cam minus the first game he started when we actually went with 3-wide to start the game.
People just going off of emotions cause reactions from others to call them out and give them rebuttals that come across as bashing the opposite kid. We should all just admit that they neither is better than the other and we will not win a NC with the QB play of the last 3 years.

While I agree Etling has been serviceable and needed to replace Harris after his horrible performance to start the season, he's not really an upgrade. We need much more than a serviceable QB moving forward.

Tough is his SEC-caliber attribute. Every other pass over 5 yards is either overthrown or one-hopped. He doesn't know when to run and he had plenty of those opportunities. At least pick up 2 or 3 yards and slide.
First part isn't even true.
Second part is not how any QB is coached. If you have even watched Monday Night Football one time in your life you would know that.

He is consistently inaccurate with any pass orver 5 yards. Either overthrows or one-hops it. Panics 90 percent of the time he sees one ounce of pressure.

That A&M D got lit up by a freshmen QB running about 5 plays, so while I'd like to believe that was the start of something for Danny, but I'm not sure that's the case...and this is coming from the one person that has been arguing for him to start over Harris going back to last spring.
I think better coaching and a better system will benefit him, but I'm not sure we'll be able to lean on the D as heavily next season and may need more of a playmaker there.

Etling is not good enough to lead this program. It's sad that people see a QB make 1 play and anoint him savior.

Look "ok" against horrible defenses and like sht against any defense that says boo. So glad a real OC next year will have Narcisse, Scott, and Brennan to take over.
Etling ended up with the 6th best QBR in the SEC.

Have you been paying attention to the OL play against Bama and Fla?
So BH gets blamed when its the o-line fault but not DE when its o-line fault

He played pretty damn good against Florida the 2nd best defense on the schedule.

I agree. In fact, if we were able to give him a more sophisticated passing scheme, his abilities would shine even more. I've been very impress with his ability to move within the pocket and still deliver the pass. He extends plays in a way that Harris was never able to. Harris needed to escape the pocket to extend plays.

At least pick up 2 or 3 yards and slide. As far as records, we played against historically bad defenses in most of those games. It's not hard to break offensive records when you have Guice and Fournette running wild. No doubt in my mind that we could have been breaking records if CLM and Cam could run a decent offensive scheme.
You can't deny the improvement of production under Etling. I never said that he was all that but he has played well enough for me to call him more than just serviceable. His ability to go through progressions alone put him in a better category IMO.

Don't listen to these idiots or engage them they don't know anything. Etling has been the reason this ship didn't sink after miles and harris had us in the worst possible spot we could be at the beginning of the year. He didn't have fournette healthy to lean on guice has been great but levels off quite a bit vs the better defenses. Etling has been our most consistent offensive player and the unquestioned leader of this team. Without him we'd be in doubt of making a bowl. He took an offense struggling to gain 330ypg and beat teams like miss st and jville state and has turned our offense into one that avgs about 500 ypg and has broken at least 5 records in less than a season. Thank god coach O and the staff know better and there's no threat of Etling losing his job next season.

Honestly, I don't think that anyone who just sticks DE in the "serviceable" category has ever stepped foot on a field. This is the video game era after all.
The very first thing that I saw was a guy who stepped onto the field and into the starting QB role in the SEC and immediately took control. You could see him taking command with a powerful voice and confidence and that is no small thing. I could go on and on about progressions and using players that were being totally left out of the passing game as well.
The bottom line is that DE has brought a confidence to this offense that it hasn't had since Mett and no "barely serviceable" QB could do that. This board should recognize that.
