Pete Carroll, who Orgeron worked for at USC, was fired twice in the NFL by the Patriots and the New York Jets. He was the fourth choice for the head coaching spot at USC in 2001.

All Carroll did was go 83-19 at USC and won two national championships before going on to coach the Seattle Seahawks.
