Makes sense. Why bring in Fedora or another B-C level guy if you can't land the big fish? Might as well ride with the C-level guy you already have

I wouldn't mind him getting the job when you look at his entire body of work while leading the team this year. My only concern is who will be the offensive coordinator? That has to be the home run hire. LSU has talent on that side of the ball but need someone to come in and develop it.

How can you idiots even place Fedora in the same category as O? I swear our fan base is the biggest bunch of idiots.

Considering a guy that never paid his dues by being a HC at a smaller program. Dumb

Just because you keep using this argument does not make it true. How did he prove himself worthy? They looked like utter incompetent shite against Bama and a crippled Florida. Who cares if he out athlete/depthed lesser teams? Why am I supposed to assume his game planning gets better as soon as he's handed more responsibility and stress?

Please...your argument is based on Orgeron playing Bama closer then anybody else in the country has and losing to Florida because players made mistakes.

The game plan against Bama appeared to be that we could stop there offense and needed to make sure we didn't give them any easy scores on turnovers and special teams. We played them close, got a couple opportunities that we could not convert, and lost a game to the best team in the country with the best defense in the country by a close margin. The game plan wasn't horrible...it just fell apart when we couldn't pass block against their DL and our QB didn't play well. Sucked but it happens.

Blaming the UF game on the gameplay is just ignorant. The game plan worked. We dominated that game and lost because of individual mistakes by players in side the 10 yard line. Guice fumbling on the 7 wasn't part of the game plan. Jackson fumbling a KO return wasn't part of the gameplan. Bobbling a FG snap wasn't part of the gameplan. Guice running the wrong way on the last play (on a play that was blocked and open if he hadn't) is not part of the gameplan.

A bad coach loses that AtM game. Down a bunch of starters on the road in a meaningless game and we come out physical and execute with our best offensive game of the season.

Give him the full time gig and let him hire a real OC (no fault to Ensminger...just not the long term answer) and I am confident that he will do as well as those guys mentioned down the list. Just not worried about it.

In the end i am comfortable with the narrowed down list that LSU is working from.
- The proven stable big time coach in Jimbo Fisher
- the definitive "might be the next big thing" coach in Herman
- the guy who might not be the conventional hire but he works for us and we know what we are getting in Orgeron.

None of those are bad choices in my opinion.

An interview would matter if you don't know what you have in a candidate. No reasonable and objective person should look at Orgeron at LSU and think what should make the difference is a good interview.

He isn't good at the job he would be doing.

His entire PR campaign is "but he knows good coaches and he will let them do the job for him".

This is a lot of what a good HC does, honestly. Mostly it's about creating an environment where your coordinators and position coaches can flourish and get the most out of their players. I think he's shown that he can do that. Should he be our next HC? Probably not. Would it be the end of the world if he were? Probably not.

Subsequent text from friend is saying O is likely to stay regardless if he doesnt get job. He will get large raise most likely will be highest paid position coach/ recruiting coordinator. O doesnt want to burn bridges at home like what happened in USC. He will likely stay until he gets a P5 chance.

If we can't land Herman or Fisher, or another big-name coach, I'd be fine with keeping Coach O at a reduced salary. I wouldn't expect LSU to implode under his leadership. In the worst-case scenario, I suspect LSU would remain about the same as now (above average, winning, but not elite). If that is the unfortunate outcome, financial concerns wouldn't be an issue down the road. LSU could get rid of him in a couple of years if it doesn't work out without a huge buyout, and with plenty of money left on the table to go after a big name. Of course, I'd prefer we shell out the big bucks to get a big name. I don't want to take a backup candidate and pay them $5m+ per year just because we want to signal something to the coaching market.

Now this I can deal with it! Keep him around as a DL coach and recruiter and nothing more than that. Give him a nice attaboy raise for his work as an interim HC. Everybody wins.

If this is true, it shows that O has grown up and is playing this situation the right way.

I don't want to see O get the HC job, but my hat is off to him for the way he has played his hand. He has shown some savvy dealing and political skill, no doubt.

Totally cool with giving Ogeron a nice raise to be the recruiting coordinator and position coach. Aranda should be the highest paid assistant though.
