As someone who negotiates for a living, I am not convinced Fisher is out of the picture. There could be a very high stakes poker game still being played among agents for Fisher and Herman with LSU. There are probably other seats at the poker table including Orgeron and Fedora. There might be a coach yet to be named who wants to join the poker game.

When I think about Fisher reportedly turning down 6.5 mil and wanting more, I am reminded of the old joke about the guy negotiating for sex with the hot girl at the bar. She wants ten grand to play. He offers $1000. She says "$1000, do you take me for a whore"? He responds "I thought we established you were a whore and all we were down to is price".

So it is with Fisher. If he is asking for a lot more to be at LSU, it's established he is a figurative whore, meaning there is a price to move him from Florida State. Price is the issue.

LSU presumably wants Fisher but sees Herman as an almost equal consolation prize. I think it's true LSU has had serious talks with Herman. What's not clear is whether Herman's true game is to bring Texas to the table.

As is true in poker, another unknown is how much does Fisher truly want to coach at LSU. Could Sexton's real marching orders have been to ask for the sky, he can always come down.

If Fisher is still in the game, LSUs leverage is at us highest right now with the possibility LSU does have a deal in place with Herman. That leverage is lost if Texas gets a seat at the table and is Herman's real choice. That would not surprise anyone.

Alleva's stack of chips is all in. He needs one of the two. If Fisher truly wants to be at LSU, he can wait and see if Herman''s deal with LSU busts and then he holds the cards. Or he could miscalculate and lose a job he wanted while not gaining favor at Florida State for using them.

Finally, LSUs win last night did keep Orgeron's seat at the table and at least gives LSU some leverage with Fisher should Sexton believe Orgeron is a viable choice for Alleva.

If it's truly just about money, it might not be over for Fisher. The fat lady is still clearing her voice, this opera may not even be in the last act yet.

I'm not reading that giant wall of text, but I agree that there's a possibility that Fisher is still in play, albeit a slim possibility.

this is what I think. My money is on someone other than Fisher and Herman, and quite possibly a surprise choice. I have two words that will describe LSU fans reactions to the new coach when announced: 'surprise' and 'disappointment'.

I've been saying since October 5 that he will be the next HC. My stance hasn't changed.

I agree. Without any real competition, Fisher could negotiate without limit. LSU, at minimum, can tell Fisher "we're done. Take the offer or we are moving on." Anyone who negotiates for a living knows nothing gets done until there is a deadline/final off

It sounded like Jimbo was in just for more money than LSU thought he was worth. If the deal for Herman falls through i would guess Alleva would reevaluate how much he is worth.

What is Happening according to my dad who ran a website for 10 plus years is normal negotiation.

I think that Jimbo knows he will have his most talented teams he has had at FSU over the next 3 years. He also knows that Coach Saban will not coach forever.

I think Jimbo would Love to go back to LSU for the right amount of money - but he is perfectly happy to sit at FSU and be in the conversation for a National Championship for the next 3 years and take the BAMA job as a consolation prize.

Lets play devils advocate and say that when Saban retires that BAMA goes after and gets Dabo, all of a sudden FSU/Jimbo would have a much easier path to the ACC Championship.

With all of that said I think it will end up like this -
1 - Herman goes to Texas. (I personally think LSU will be dodging a bullet here. Him kissing the players is just freaking creepy and I think he will be a bust).
2 - Jimbo is the real target for LSU and it is 50% / 50% that he goes to LSU but IMHO LSU will not pay him enough.
3 - O gets the Job.

No Source - just an Opinion.

Until FSU comes out and announces it has agreed in principal on terms to a raise and extension, Fisher is in play.

paper tiger, great post.

I agree that this is a high stakes poker game.

But, here is why I think it is highly unlikely Jimbo gets back into the picture: With the word leaking out about Herman, it appears that Herman was their first choice. If Herman ends up going to TX, and LSU comes back to Jimbo and gives him what he wants (65 million over ten years?) it still looks like Jimbo was Plan B. I doubt Jimbo would want to be thought of as Plan B.

I suspect that Jimbo and Sexton set a price tag out there that they thought LSU would accept. LSU didn't accept it.

So, the question is what will Jimbo do if LSU comes back and says, "We changed our mind. We'll give you everything you asked for"?

1. Would LSU do that?
2. Would Jimbo take it, or would he raise the stakes, or would he just say, "You had your chance. No, thanks"?

A Florida State fan told me that of course, Fisher was never coming to LSU.

That fan drinks a lot of FSU kool-aid, but I am not sure of Fisher's interest level in LSU right now. I know his agent, Jimmy Sexton has done everything to help insure that Jimbo's bank account keeps getting bigger.

Well convince yourself. Fisher will not be this year or any year the LSU coach. Really doesn't want anything to do with it. Leverages for a raise which is pissing off some FSU brass. He's gonna leave FSU, just not for LSU. Loves the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area. Played college ball here, Very close to Saban. They talk A LOT. ALways says the state of Alabama gave hi a chance to play college ball and loves the passion.

I'll leave it at that.
