Instead of buying cheap presents that my niece's play with for a week and it becomes trash, I was thinking of buying a government bond or some sort of investment. I have 5 bonds from the government that my grandfather bought me when I was little and they are about to mature, thinking if something like that. Any recommendations? Looking to spend around $50 for Christmas and birthday gifts for each kid

Thanks in advance!

$50 worth of govt bonds will be worth about $51 in ten years. They'll love you FOREVER!

just ask their parents if they have college funds set up and if so, give them the money to contribute.

Lol, I know the gov bonds aren't worth much anymore, thats why I want more suggestions. Back when they were bought for me it was a pretty good investment

I just want something that in 20 years it'll be something rather than old thrown away toys, wasting my money buying that junk. Even if it is 3-4 thousand to put towards a car or something when they graduate college, Better than nothing

Exactly. Why not a company that you think will be around for a while? Instead of toys, buy a share of a toy company lol.

Mattel, Hasbro, etc.
Apple... If you buy just a share or two and it happens to split several times and gain lots of value in 20 years then that's an extremely teachable lesson. INVEST EARLY!

the earlier you get them, the better. I have a few bonds from my great grandfather and wow they sure have come in handy. However, only because they've matured fully over a long period of time. Great for a college fund situation
