I was really enjoying this movie, and the fact that it was mostly light on using callbacks and references to the other stories as a crutch.

It was a cool use of the world to tell an original story.

Then Depp turned up, brought in grendelwald, tethered the whole thing to the main saga, opened up all of the previously noted continuity problems, and nearly ruined it.

I can see just the damn army of character returns, parents, and references just piling on in the future movies.

The incredibly small world created by all of the interconnected relationships and families is one of the few problems I have with the original story. Going to America and doing this whole new story, or using Newt as a catalyst for MOW type movies would expand the universe and retcon the whole scope back to a grand scale.

Instead we're right back where we started for the most part.

Should have known Rowling couldn't leave well enough alone.

Rowling's Harry Potter world would have been so much better and would have opened up so many more stories if they just hadnt been so unbelievable.

She is brilliant with characters and HP was a really enjoyable series but I wish she had gotten some help with her story.

All of these new stories are supposed to center around Newt. Your bigger problem should be with Leatrange more than Grindelwald
