Im sure many have/are in the same situation Im in now. I worked my way up to a very well paying career over the course of 8yrs with the same company. But Ive gotten to the point that Im just miserable at work now. I work super long hours (leave at 530am and get home around 7-8) and barely see my kids now because they are typically in bed for 8. Im stuck in a tough spot where I know I could take a sizable paycut and we would be ok financially, but how would prospective employers typically look at that? Would they think something is wrong or that Im not very motivated that Im willing to take about a third of a paycut to be happier and be able to be home at a normal time? I like the role Im in, and wouldnt mind staying in a similar type role, but damn I just want to be able to turn off my phone and not have to answer an email at any time of the night once I leave, pick up my daughter from dance class, or be able to go to their practice or ball game when that time comes.

What was your tipping point and how has it worked for you? I wont lie, I love the fact that we have been blessed financially but Im really at that point where money isnt everything.

Thank you in advance to those who give meaningful responses but Im sure the fry cook to front counter comments will come as well.

I'm the opposite. I don't work very hard at all and make pretty good money. I could work a lot harder and make a lot more money but I'm happy

Is anyone going to die if you don't answer?

If not, turn the shite off and don't answer. If they can't respect that then id find somewhere else to work.

Kinda in the same spot except I am waiting for my kids to come off child support. Daughter comes off next year and my youngest is 16 years old so not much longer to go. I have kinda plateaued at my position. Been with my company 17 years. I just want change and am wiling to take a paycut to find a better schedule and more me time. Want to travel and do bucket list stuff. Good luck

Welcome to adulthood. You don't have off days? Vacation time? Nothing on this earth is more important than your children. Sounds like the kids are young and will be able to stay up later soon. I wouldn't leave a well paying job when in the next year or two, they will be able to stay up later. Make a conscious effort to leave work earlier some days. On your off days, spend 100% time with them. Let them know that you love them with all
Your being, but you also have to work to provide for them and their future. Hell. Take your lunch break and pick them up from school/daycare and just hang out with them/have lunch with them.

How valuable is your time? My free time is extremely valuable, therefore I sell it at a very high price. I value my time away from work. I'm not willing to give it up unless the price is so great that it would change my life tremendously.

Work/life balance, everyone needs it. If you have kids, spending time is more important than making extra money unless it means they'll suffer.

Either get a promotion, take the pay cut, or make a move to another company

I was in that spot. I took a big pay decrease for a less stressful position/life. My family life and quality of life improved a ton, but I have grown complacent and discontent with living on less. For me, it has been difficult to get back to where I was. I have been trying to find a happy middle ground, but no such luck yet with the right opportunity. However, I'm in process on a potential opportunity that sounds like it will be the perfect combination for me.

Long story short...it was probably worth it for me, but I do second guess my decision often.

I am in a similar situation. I work really hard but a lot is expected from me.

I show up around 730, no one else come in until 830-9, I usually leave by 530 or when I am at a good stopping point.

My boss chastises me for leaving early even though I stay later than other people because they rely on my work. I work for a small company.

I want to have time to enjoy my life and not feel guilty for missing a day with a 100 degree fever. I am looking to get in with a larger company where I can go in, do my work, then go home and not worry about it and live my life
