I disagree, I coach baseball and kids learn to win or lose on the field. When I give trophies I talk to the kids about all of the things I seen in them that earned them a trophy for their season and their hard work. Kids just want to be recognized and it's great for the soul. In tball and youth baseball you don't have to give trophies or medals but watching their face light up and giving them praise makes it all worth it. Participation trophies are not the downfall of this country and its a silly assertion.

Praise for hard work is fine. However, there's way too many that get an award for just being there or awards are just made up so that everyone on the team gets one for something. It undermines hard work and dedication. We tell kids that failure is okay, which it is, but then they get an award for failing, which is not okay.
