Most major cities kept their older, smaller airports when the new, big one opened outside of town. I wouldn't suppose New Orleans or Baton Rouge would be any different.

The real jewel of this project wasn't passenger travel as much as freight. The potential combination of different modes of transportation inside the same gate would be unparalleled.

The Ports of New Orleans and Baton Rouge are two of the busiest waters ports in the US. I don't think there would be a significant shift to air freight due to the type of cargo that come through.

MSY is a popular leisure airport and should strive to be like LAS, or SAN.
