I don't have a pellet smoker but the little bit I do know, most pellet smokers, while they are great for ribs, chicken brisket, etc. they don't do a very good job on steaks or burgers unless you pay a lot more than $500.

Weber smokey Mountain and a Weber kettle grill. You can get the large versions of both for under $500
