Ok whatever. You keep grasping at straws....

Look I know baseball fans are super into advanced stats and I like looking at things from a more logical perspective as well. But ERA is still the most important stat for pitchers. That's their entire job. I'll take the guy with a 0 ERA who loads the bases every inning and gets out of it over the guy who strikes out 27 batters and lets up 3 runs a game.
Maybe he is unlucky, maybe it's a small sample size, I don't really care. The fact of the matter is that to this point, he's not getting the job done. It's unarguable. Your argument should be that it's not likely to continue based on x and y. Arguing he hasn't been bad is silly.

quote:except it really isn't cause he really hasn't been that bad. All of this hand wringing is literally over 2 crappy starts to St Louis
Arguing he hasn't been bad is silly.
For example, since 2013, this is his era once you take out game 6 of the 2013 NLCS and game 1 of the 2014 NLDS, 2.86. Is that frick you dominate like he usually is? No. But is that really so bad to where we have this idiotic narrative that he can't pitch in the postseason? frick no. He had two bad starts years ago and since then, he's been pretty damn good and has had multiple starts where he absolutely shut the opponent down. Even on the road in elimination games like last year against the Mets

when you have sub 2.00 ERA's and 3 cy young's, sample size shouldnt even matter. You are supposed to go out there and dominate. Just the fact that we are even talking about this tells us that he is a different player.
84IP is a small sample size? Are you people fricking serious?
how many times do you need the guy who routinely blanks people in the reg season to give up 4ER or 5ER in order for the sample size to be valid?

I wish MLB front offices were staffed by the sports geniuses in this thread. The Cards would never miss the playoffs again.

That's not too bad.
He's still a beast and helps get his team to the post-season.

These arguments are always ridiculous.
This is pretty cut and dry. Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball, but he has struggled to have the same amount of success in the postseason. The numbers back that up.
